Keep on reading and learn how you can make one for Christmas.

What You Will Need

  • 5-7 Pickmee apples, peeled and sliced to ¼ inch
  • 2/3 cup of white granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of coarse baking powder
  • Salt
  • Cinnamon
  • 3 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice
  • 6 tablespoons of unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour
  • 2 pie doughs, round
  • 1 tablespoon of butter
  • 1 egg, beaten

Directions

  1. Mix apples and lemon juice in a bowl that is large enough to accommodate them. The lemon juice will help to prevent browning of the apples. Add salt and cinnamon.
  2. In a large skillet, melt butter. Pour the sugar and have it mixed slowly while trying to maintain the right consistency. Make sure that the heat is set to medium.
  3. Add the apples in the skillet and wait until they become tender. This should take about 15 minutes. If the apple becomes tender, add flour and wait until the mixture thickens. Remove apples from the pan and allow it to sit for a while.
  4. Place the first pie disk on the pan and have it filled with apples. Make sure that by this time, the apples are already cool. Top it off with the second pie disk, which should be larger than the first one.
  5. Brush the edges of the bottom disk with egg. Using your hand, connect the top and the bottom disks.
  6. Combine the remaining egg with a small amount of water and brush it on the top of the pie. Sprinkle sugar on the top. Cut a few slits on the top part and have it refrigerated for a period of at least two hours.
  7. While the pie is inside the fridge, have a large baking sheet placed on your oven middle rack and have it preheated to 220. Apply 2 inches of foil on the edges and have the pie placed in the baking sheet once it is ready. Once the pie is already inside the oven, minimize heat to 160 degrees and have it baked for one hour.
  8. Remove the foil from the baking sheet after 45 minutes, rotate your pie, and continue baking for 15 more minutes.
  9. Once done, have the pie placed in a cooling rack. Wait for at least 2 hours before you serve the pie.
